“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”– 1 Peter 5:7
If you have ever been told that real Christians do not struggle with anxiety, that advice was wrong, even if the person meant well. The Bible is full of people who were afraid, overwhelmed, and barely hanging on – David, Elijah, Job, the disciples in the storm. Anxiety is not proof that your faith is broken. It is proof that you are a human being living in a broken world with a body that reacts to stress.
Scripture takes anxiety seriously without shaming you for it. Cast your anxiety on Him. Do not be anxious about anything. These are not insults. They are invitations. God is not demanding you stop feeling what you feel. He is offering to carry what you cannot. The problem is not the feeling. The problem is when we try to grip it alone instead of handing it over repeatedly.
That said, faith does not cancel out the help God has made available. Counseling is not a sign of weak faith. Medication, for some people, is not a lack of trust. Sleep, exercise, therapy, prayer, and community are all gifts from the same God. Using them is not unspiritual. Refusing them because you are trying to white-knuckle it alone often is.
This week, if anxiety has been chronic, take one real step toward help. Tell a trusted friend. Call a counselor. Talk to your doctor. Spend ten minutes a day casting your specific worries on God by name, out loud if needed. You are not failing because you are struggling. You are human. And the God who made you is not afraid of your anxiety. He is inviting you closer in the middle of it.
Taking It Further
Knowing truth is only half the battle. Living it is where the rubber meets the road. So what does this look like in your life this week? It might mean having a hard conversation you have been avoiding. It might mean writing down a promise and reading it every morning before your feet hit the floor. It might mean simply pausing at the end of the day to ask one honest question: Did I walk this out today?
Scripture is a living word – and it changes lives when we put it into practice. Do not let today’s reading stay on the page. Let it travel with you into every conversation, every decision, every quiet moment. That is when the gospel stops being information and starts being transformation. And that is the kind of faith that is worth rocking on your sleeve – literally.
