“I would like you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord’s affairs – how he can please the Lord.”– 1 Corinthians 7:32
Singleness often gets treated as a waiting room. You sit there, flip through magazines, glance at the door, and hope your real life will be called next. That framing is a cultural lie dressed up as a spiritual one. Jesus was single. Paul was single. The New Testament calls singleness a gift, not a holding pattern, and that one shift changes how you spend the season.
Marriage is good, and wanting it is not wrong. But if you only exist for the future you hope is coming, you will miss what God is doing in the life you actually have. Singleness has a freedom and focus that is genuinely harder to get once you are responsible for a spouse and kids. The question is not when will this end. The question is what can I do now that I will not be able to do later.
Use the season. Go on the trip. Serve the ministry. Invest deeply in friendships. Take the job that might move you. Get counseling and work on the issues you do not want to drag into a marriage. Cultivate a walk with Jesus so rich that you would not trade it even if single turned out to be the rest of your life. That kind of life is attractive, but more importantly, it is whole.
This week, write down three things you can do in this season that you might not be able to do as easily later. Then pick one and actually do it. Stop treating your life as a preview and start living the feature. Whatever God brings next, He is doing something real with you now, and now is not a waste. It is where you are being formed.
Taking It Further
Knowing truth is only half the battle. Living it is where the rubber meets the road. So what does this look like in your life this week? It might mean having a hard conversation you have been avoiding. It might mean writing down a promise and reading it every morning before your feet hit the floor. It might mean simply pausing at the end of the day to ask one honest question: Did I walk this out today?
Scripture is a living word – and it changes lives when we put it into practice. Do not let today’s reading stay on the page. Let it travel with you into every conversation, every decision, every quiet moment. That is when the gospel stops being information and starts being transformation. And that is the kind of faith that is worth rocking on your sleeve – literally.
