“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”– 1 Peter 3:15
A lot of us grew up with an image of evangelism that was basically confrontation. A stranger at the airport. A tract in the bathroom. A cringeworthy sermon shouted at a crowd that did not ask. No wonder many Christians would rather get a root canal than share their faith. The good news is that Jesus did not do evangelism that way, and He is not asking you to either.
Real evangelism usually starts with relationship. You live honestly in front of your neighbors, coworkers, and friends. You show up when they are struggling. You listen to their questions without rushing to fix or correct. Over time, trust is built, and trust is the doorway through which truth actually walks. People rarely believe strangers about the most important thing in life. They believe friends.
When spiritual conversations do open up, you do not need to be a theologian. You need to be honest. Tell your own story. Here is what I was like before, here is how I met Jesus, here is what my life is like now. That simple pattern is what the blind man used in John 9, and it is still one of the most powerful tools in the kingdom. Your testimony is irrefutable. It happened to you.
This week, pick one person in your life who is not following Jesus and start praying for them daily by name. Ask God for natural opportunities to talk about Him, and for courage when those moments come. Then live a life worth asking about. Most people do not need you to win a debate. They need you to live something real and be willing to talk about the One who made it that way.
Taking It Further
Knowing truth is only half the battle. Living it is where the rubber meets the road. So what does this look like in your life this week? It might mean having a hard conversation you have been avoiding. It might mean writing down a promise and reading it every morning before your feet hit the floor. It might mean simply pausing at the end of the day to ask one honest question: Did I walk this out today?
Scripture is a living word – and it changes lives when we put it into practice. Do not let today’s reading stay on the page. Let it travel with you into every conversation, every decision, every quiet moment. That is when the gospel stops being information and starts being transformation. And that is the kind of faith that is worth rocking on your sleeve – literally.
