“If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.”– 1 Corinthians 12:26
It is easy to live as if Christianity is a mostly Western phenomenon. Your church, your language, your culture. In reality, the majority of Christians alive today are not in North America or Europe. They are in places like sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. The global church is vast, vibrant, and in many places faces pressure most of us will never personally know.
Every week, brothers and sisters somewhere in the world are worshiping under threat of arrest, imprisonment, or worse. They meet in basements, in forests, in homes where the curtains stay closed. They pay a cost for the faith that most of us can barely imagine. If we are really one body, as Scripture says, then their suffering is not someone else’s story. It is part of ours.
Caring about the global church does not require a plane ticket. It requires attention. Learn about what is happening in other countries. Support organizations that are faithful and boots-on-the-ground, not just slick. Pray by name for regions under persecution. When you realize how many are walking with Jesus under pressure, it reshapes how you view the minor inconveniences that pass for persecution in your own life.
This week, pick one country or region and research what the church looks like there right now. Pray for believers in that place by name or by description every morning for seven days. Consider giving to an organization that is serving them on the ground. You are part of a family far bigger than your zip code. Acting like it changes your own faith as much as it blesses theirs.
Taking It Further
Knowing truth is only half the battle. Living it is where the rubber meets the road. So what does this look like in your life this week? It might mean having a hard conversation you have been avoiding. It might mean writing down a promise and reading it every morning before your feet hit the floor. It might mean simply pausing at the end of the day to ask one honest question: Did I walk this out today?
Scripture is a living word – and it changes lives when we put it into practice. Do not let today’s reading stay on the page. Let it travel with you into every conversation, every decision, every quiet moment. That is when the gospel stops being information and starts being transformation. And that is the kind of faith that is worth rocking on your sleeve – literally.
